Abscessed primary teeth. Could they have a chance to survive?. A case series

Description:

Objectives: It is always a challenge to manage dental caries in primary teeth that exhibit a severe coronal distraction with subsequent dento-alveolar abscess. Treating those teeth with a conventional endodontic procedure has remained controversial for a number of reasons. Lesion sterilization and tissue repair (LSTR) is a relatively new biologic approach for carious lesions with periapical involvement. The concept is to use a triple antibiotic mixture in a suitable vehicle, which is used to disinfect root canal systems.
Methods: This presentation highlight four cases where LSTR technique using triple antibiotic paste was attempted in primary molars exhibiting a gross dentoalveolar abscess and internal resorption.
Results : The follow-up revealed a healing of periapical lesion and reversal of internal resorption in all four cases.
Conclusion/Discussion: LSTR is considered as an alternative treatment procedure in comparison to traditional endodontic treatment or extraction in primary teeth with periapical involvement and internal resorption.
