Dr Judi Humphreys  BDS (Hons), MFDS RCS Glasgow,  MPAEDDEENT RCS Glasgow, DDSc, PGCE Med. Ed., FDS (PAED DENT) RCS England

Judi is a senior lecturer and honorary consultant working for University of Liverpool and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in the UK. She graduated from University of Glasgow in 2013 with honours and completed a number of core training positions across the UK before starting specialty training in Paediatric Dentistry in 2017 in Liverpool.

Judi is currently the Secretary of the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry Merseyside Branch and organises the academic programme for the Branch each year. She is an examiner for MFDS with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Glasgow. Clinically she helps provide care for children with complex medical histories and learning disability under local anaesthetic, sedation or general anaesthetic. Judi’s research interests include enamel defects, the oral microbiome and child-centred research.

This workshop will aim to discuss the management of children with complex medical needs including special consideration to for conscious sedation and general anaesthesia, the workshop will include short lectures and interactive treatment planning and case based discussions

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this workshop, you will be

• Have knowledge of the most common medical conditions that can affect the dental management of children
• Have knowledge of the most common oral and dental complications of systemic diseases in children
• Able to discuss conscious sedation in children and the principles of treatment planning of children for management under sedation
• Able to discuss indication for general anaesthesia and the affect of medical history on treatment planning
